May 12, 2025 • by Josh Coles

Ahead of the NCAA DIII Women’s National Championship, which starts Tuesday 13th May at the Kingsmill Resort in Virginia, we take a quick look at those in form.

Carnegie Mellon vs Emory

Defending champion Carnegie Mellon comes into nationals as the number one ranked team. The Tartans won their first ever National Championship last year and have not finished outside the top three in any event this season.

Emory, ranked #2, has four tournaments wins over Carnegie Mellon’s two. Last year, Coach Liz Fernandes’ inexperienced side relinquished what looked like a winning lead to Carnegie Mellon. A year older and wiser, they will be about to avenge that reversal this time out.

Which teams are trending?

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges is the team inside the top 10 that has risen furthest in the rankings since Fall, rising from #12 to #5 thanks to two wins in March and a second place finish at the SCIAC Championship

DIII National Champions in 2023, George Fox is also trending nicely since the turn of the year. The team includes three seniors ranked inside the top 10 and has risen to #3 on the back of three wins including a Conference Championship.

Individuals to watch

Alison Takamiya from George Fox heads to the Kingsmill resort as the #1 ranked woman in DIII. The fifth year student-athlete has accumulated five wins this season, including the Northwest Conference Championship, and has only lost to six players all year.

Alexis Sudjianto of Carnegie Mellon has been in fantastic form this spring rising from #19 to #7 in the rankings. The sixth year currently boasts an adjusted scoring average of 71.2 which has allowed her to finish inside the top four in all her events this year. She’s also fresh off a win at the Deb Jackson Invitational.

Only three players have seen a greater jump in their ranking this spring than Sharon Mun of Emory. Ranked #75 in February, she’s now at #12 and in a great position to make a run at the individual title. Munn was a member of Emory’s 2022 National Championship-winning team.
