Ole Miss claimed a second consecutive team victory to secure a rare men and women’s double, only the second time both teams have won on the same day. The Rebels’ 30-under-par at Medinah was three better than Houston and the second-lowest 54-hole score in program history.
Houston and Ole Miss arrived at the storied venue in fine form. The Cougars had recorded a 3rd place and a win in its first two events; Mississippi won the recent Mary Fossum Invitational. The leaderboard reflected that after two rounds with Houston leading on nine under par, one ahead of the Rebels.
After winning four times last season and recording four top-3s to finish the year at No.9 in the National Collegiate Golf Rankings, Zoe Campos (UCLA) got it going in the first two rounds at Medinah, making 11 birdies and an eagle to get to nine under (69,66).
Campos sat one back from Lexanne Halama of Illinois, who was competing as an individual. Halama put up a 77.1 adjusted stroke average last season but birdied five of her last six holes in round two to card a 67. Anna Davis (Auburn) and Caitlyn Macnab (Ole Miss) were tucked in their slipstream with a round to go.
The final circuit quickly developed into a shootout between Houston and Ole Miss and it was the Rebels that ultimately possessed more firepower. All five Ole Miss players finished comfortably under par, earning a 19th team win for Coach Kory Henkes (above) in her 10th season in charge.
As the Ole Miss Athletics website reported, freshman Kajsalotta Svarvar set new career-records in her third college tournament —low-18 (65), low-54 (208) and best individual finish (T7).
Anna Davis (above) came through to grab her second individual college title. The US Curtis Cup player and 2022 ANWA champion closed with a superb five-under-par 67, playing her last eight holes in five under.
