The course, which added nearly 200 yards in length from a year ago proved difficult with the wet and soggy conditions. The two-time reigning champions from British Columbia hold a three shot lead, posting a +17 round score of 305. Cumberlands (Ky.) took advantage of playing in the afternoon session to shot +20 to edge out Oklahoma City at +21.
In the 156 player field Kate Castle of Millian (Tenn.) and Abby Donovan from Kansas Wesleyan combined for a low score of +2. There are eight players sitting at +3 and five with scores of +4 for the first round.
There were five players who tied for a round lead with four total birdies: Jessica Ng from British Columbia, Atchariya Thanaudomkul from Cumberlands (Ky.), Sage Parsetich of Indiana Wesleyan, Isabella Downing from Rocky Mountain (Mont.), and Shayne Lim of Taylor (Ind.).
Elizabeth Labbe of British Columbia recorded par on 15 of the 18 holes while a trio of competitors tallied par on 14 total holes.
Tomorrow’s second round will see the teams and competitors flip their tee times from the morning to the afternoon and vice versa with the morning wave scheduled to go off at 7:00 a.m. CT at TPC Deere Run and the afternoon groups slated to tee off at noon.
