St Andrews Links Collegiate.... RedHawk Invitational...
Two days of testing weather and six-count-five stroke play at St Andrews boiled down to Arizona facing Northwestern for the team championship on the hallowed turf of the Old Course.
Northwestern came out on top, becoming only the second team winners of the St Andrews Links Collegiate after Vanderbilt won the inaugural competition last year. The Wildcats’ win was achieved with a strong Scottish connection in their ranks.
Local boy Archie Finnie (Northwestern) halved with Johnny Walker in the first match out before Griffin Rhoads put Arizona ahead in game two. Northwestern then took charge with Akshay Anand beating Matěj Bača in match three.
Scottish international Niall Shiels-Donegan held a five-shot lead at the turn in his match over Arizona’s Zach Pollo, sealing it with a birdie on the 18th to complete a three-under-par 69.
It was left to junior Daniel Svard to clinch victory in a high quality encounter with Arizona's in-form Tiger Christensen, which he won 69 to 70.
Edinburgh native Cameron Adam then put a bow on it, shooting a best-of-the-day 68 to defeat Filip Jakubcik by two shots to give Northwestern a 4.5 to 1.5 winning margin across six medal match play head-to-heads.
In the two days prior to the final, Arizona senior Zach Pollo (above) overcame cold and windy conditions to take the men’s individual competition. It was his second tournament win as a student athlete.
Pollo shot a two-under-par 68 to finish at five under, two shots clear of teammate Filip Jakubcik and local favorite Cameron Adam.
Adam closed with an excellent closing 67 (-3) on the Jubilee, which contained five birdies in his first 12 holes. Jakubik carded an even par 70 in round two to claim his second top-six finish of the season. Theo Anderson-Gannon of St Andrews finished in solo fourth at level par.
In the four-team stroke play competition, Arizona completed the 36 holes in even par to head Northwestern by six and earn top seeding. Home team St. Andrews University came in third at 28 over with Howard back at +56.

Marquette continued in its recent vein of form by defending its RedHawk Intercollegiate title in Pittsburgh, recording a 16-under-par total of 836, the third-lowest team score in program history. It was good enough to secure a one-shot win over Georgia Southern.
As the GoMarquette website reported, the Golden Eagles were coming off one of their best ever team performances, a second place behind Arizona at the recent Windon Memorial Classic against a field that included 11 teams that had made it to NCAA Regionals on both of the last two years.
Senior Patrick Adler, who won the individual tournament at the Windon by five shots, was again in fine form, tying at the top with Georgia Southern sophomore Brycen Jones on 10 under par.
In the third and final round, Adler eagled the par-5 3rd hole to spark a run that saw him get to the turn in five under a par. A second eagle on the par-5 15th got him to six under for the round. His 65 equaled the best round of his college career and was enough to get him alongside Jones, who finished with a birdie on the 215-yard par-3 18th, statistically the hardest hole on the course.
Adler and Jones were joint best on the par-5s, both playing the 12 holes in a combined 11 under par.
Max Lyons (Marquette) and Daniel Cheng (James Madison) finished T2 on seven under par over the historic Pittsburgh Field Club course, which hosted the 1937 PGA Championship and the 1959 Western Open.
