A round up of standout team and individual performances in the week October 17-23.
This week’s round-up simply must start on the 195-yard par-3 8th hole at Stonebridge GC in Rome, Georgia, with , a member of the Sewanee B-team, hitting his first tee shot straight into the hole at the DIII Chick-Fil-A Invitational. If that wasn't good enough, the sophomore then began his afternoon round on the same hole and promptly recorded another ace. In the final round, added a third a hole-in-one of the tournament on the par-3 12th.
In DI, two highly-ranked teams with wins already this Fall shared the honors at the Fallen Oak Collegiate Invitational. (above) scored a third consecutive win after previously taking the Jackson T. Stephens Cup and the Bryan Bros Collegiate, and has only two losses this season, both coming at the season-opening Visit Knoxville Collegiate.
Matthew Dodd-Berry shot a second round 63 (-9) to tie the program record for 18 holes, but it was his teammate (above) who earned his second career medalist honors, edging the in-form William Jennings (Alabama) and Max Herendeen (Illinois) by one shot.
LSU tied with Alabama, for whom Jennings recorded three rounds in the 60s to bag his third top-2 finish this season; he was co-winner at the Folds of Honor and Ben Hogan Collegiate tournaments.
On the women’s side, the Stanford Intercollegiate attracted a strong field, as always, and the home team put on a show. The Cardinal won by 19 strokes over Oregon, finishing at 35 under par, which is the third best score in program history.
Four players finished inside the top-10, headed by U.S. Women's Amateur champion (below), who birdied the final hole to shoot 66 and claim individual medalist honors for the third time in her collegiate career.
(Oregon), the No.1 player in WAGR, was among a group of players finishing T2. The tournament raised $160,000 for the Play For Her campaign.
At The Ally, shot 274 (-14) in the second round to set a new tournament record. , who has a win already this season, made 10 birdies on her way to tying the Vanderbilt record for lowest individual round with an eight-under-par 64.
The blitzed the field to win, despite three Arkansas players finishing in the top three. shot a closing 68 (-4) to win medalist honors by one shot over teammate Reagan Zibliski. Jose Maria Marin, who is ranked #2 individually, finished T3 alongside the top ranked woman in DI, Avery Weed of Mississippi State.
In North Carolina, claimed the fourth win of her collegiate career as the won by 15 strokes at the Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invitational. Davis was joined in the top-5 by teammates Balma Davalos and Anne Fernandez (both T4).
Wake Forest freshman made a memorable start to her college career, entering the UNCG Collegiate as an individual and leaving with the trophy. The Thai player ended on three under par to become the third Deacon this season to win medalist honors.
Elsewhere in DI, (above) shot its best 54-hole score (836 /-28) in two seasons at the Quail Valley Collegiate, capturing the team title by a shot from Florida Gulf Coast.
, meanwhile, broke several team records on the way to a runner-up finish at La Tour Intercollegiate: single round team score (269/-19) in the final round; 836/-28 for a new team 54-hole record; Joe Rohlwing with lowest score and lowest score to par with his final round 62 (-10). was team champion.
set several program records at the Diamante Intercollegiate: lowest round in program history (282/-6) in the first round, best 36-hole score at (574/-2), and 54-hole team score of (862/-2). The Cardinals still finished 26 shots behind eventual winners .
In DII, shot 839 (-25) to win the Golfweek Fripp Island to Bermuda Invite by 18 shots over Georgia Southwestern. (above), who moves to #1 in the DII Individual rankings, took medalist honors, which come with a sponsor’s exemption into the PGA Tour’s Butterfield Bermuda Championship. Zielinski fired a 65 (-7) in the first round, setting a new course record at Gripp Island Ocean Point.
(above) remained at the top of the DII rankings with a 42-shot win at the Intercollegiate at Nemacolin. All five players finished in the top 10 with Charlie Cooley claiming his first collegiate victory, finishing at eight under par.
set a new program record in finishing the Patriot Fall Classic at 30 under par, 17 shots better than nearest challengers Lander.
Squirrels seniors (above) and completed 54 holes tied at 11 under par before Storer prevailed on the second playoff hole to collect his first collegiate victory.
Finally, moved to third in the DII rankings with a 20-shot winning margin at the Saint Leo University Invitational. led from start to finish to earn her first medalist honors.
