A dramatic finish highlighted play today at the 72nd Annual NAIA Men's Golf National Championship at Dalton Golf and Country Club.
Texas Wesleyan posted the best team round of the day to jump to the top of the leaderboard while a handful of teams jockeyed around the cut line late in the afternoon as 16 teams earned the right to play during the final two days of the four-round national championship.
Sixteen teams and the top seven individuals not on a team made the 36-hole cut and secured their spot to play on Thursday and Friday. Seven individuals make the cut due to a tie for the sixth-best individual.
Texas Wesleyan carded a team-total 294 in today's second round to move up two spots into first place with a two-round total of 589 (295-294). The Rams lead second-place Dalton State (Ga.) by four strokes following the Roadrunners' 298 today and a 593 (295-298) at the tournament's midway point.
Keiser (Fla.) -- the first-round leader -- is in third with a 597 (291-306), while British Columbia (299-304) and Columbia (Mo.) (301-302) are tied for fourth with 603's.
Truett McConnell's (Ga.)Peyton Shedd carded one of the six sub-par rounds today to climb into the individual lead. He carded four birdies to fire a 1-under par 71 today over the 7,043 yards, par-72 layout. He leads with a 2-under par 142 (71-71).
Webber International's (Fla.) Vedant Sirohi is the only other player under par after 36 holes. He matched Shedd's 71 to post a 143 (72-71) following today's second round.
Texas Wesleyan's Colin Price (75-69), Wayland Baptist's (Texas) Benjamin Lubker (73-71), and Dalton State's Jack Whaley (71-73) are all tied for third with even-par 144s. Price carded five birdies today to shoot a tournament-low 3-under par 69 today.
In addition to the individual leaders, a pair of hole-in-ones occurred during today's round. Benedictine-Mesa's (Ariz.)Sabastian Carranza aced the 174-yard par-3 hole nine to close out his tournament. He missed the cut by one stroke. St. Thomas's (Fla.)Tomas Borquez knocked in his tee shot on the 182-yard par-3 sixth hole. Borquez is tied for 29th with a 151 (70-81).
